Ek Do Teen Char Band Karo Yeh Atyachar - KANK !!! KANK!!!

KANK- Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna as it is popularly known. A movie totally on expected lines from Karan Johar. It revolves around two couples trying to resolve their marriage woes. Lot of money, Big Actors, Lavish Songs, Awesome locations don't make a greatmovie is again asserted by KANK.

Sharukh and Rani have surely not given their best performances. At many places their performances leave much to be expected. To be frank when has one found Rani to be exceptionally brilliant, exception being Black, but there too she undid her great performance by her long utterances and overacting(I wud like to thank Amit Uncle) in many a award ceremonies. The only time I liked her was in Gulam, reasons for that are totally different though- being a teenager I used to fall for every new face on screen. SRK never was a great actor and never would be, but only a superstar that being a result of his hard work, big banner movies and fortune.

Big B and small b seem to have done justice to their roles. Priety is also fine.

Other issue that stands out is the subtle promotion of gay community. KANK has in 2-3 places references to gays and few subtle ones like - SRK moving to Philadelphia(remember Tom Hangs movie) and the camera focuses on 'Philadelphia - "City of brotherly love" '.

Too many coincidences mar the movie. Scenes at most of the places are a drag. Movie could well be done in less than 3 hrs as compared to present 3 hr 10 min. Karan Johar's sense of humour is a silver lining in a some places.

Coming to the core issues around which KANK revolves love, extramartial affairs, marriage and divorce etc have not been dealt with keeping mind Indian sensibilities. These issues if presented should not be touched superficially. As what you show on screen has an impact on people. Just moving out of your current marriage for certain issues that are reconcilable shouldn't be promoted. Man by nature is an animal and prone to certain beastly attractions all his life but that should not be understood as your love for life. Beacause by this he would find his love of life n number of times and each time he can't move out of a marriage. It's a different case if the director wants to convey that we should keep moving all our life in search of that love, that we think is the love of our life. As some wise man has aptly said 'Life is all about moving on'.

I might be sounding too critical about KANK, but this is what most of the people I have talked to had to say about KANK. And if one justifies that movie has been a hit by the sheer volumes of multiplex audiences then I would pity such an argument. As numbers may not necessarily speak for themselves most of the times. It's just out of curiosity that people have been going for KANK. And what Karan Johar presents is a total disaster. A hit movie is one which picks up among audiences after one- two weeks and sustains itself for weeks to come. As far as KANK is concerned I doubt it would be running after 2 weeks. The initial hype did ensure that it makes enough money by fooling the audiences and their pockets. I would end by saying that Karan has taken David Dhawan typo movies a step further by presenting KANK in a polished and sophisticated manner.
